What is an integrative medicine health coach?
Health coaching is a process that facilitates healthy, sustainable behavior change. As an integrative medicine health coach, I partner with you to help identify the root cause of your health issues. I then provide the motivation and tools necessary for you to achieve your health and wellness goals and bring your life back into balance.
How is integrative medicine health coaching different ?
As an integrative medicine practitioner I utilize a holistic approach, treating the whole individual and not just the disease. I have training in functional medicine, Ayurveda and mind body medicine as well as knowledge and experience gained from over 25 years of practice as a registered nurse and nurse practitioner. I will gather information about your diet, lifestyle, and environment. We examine all areas of your life and how they interact to impact your health and well-being. I may also recommend some functional medicine testing. Once the data is collected I act as a medical detective to uncover the underlying causes of your health issues. I then work with you to create a plan to promote overall wellness.
Coaching is a natural extension of nursing practice. My approach is always customized as each client is unique. With an emphasis on healthy eating, managing stress, improving sleep and increasing activity, the core of my work is centered on forming new habits. I create a safe, non-judgmental space for self-discovery as you progress through a journey of change.
How does coaching
Evaluate You complete a confidential health assessment prior to your first visit. The first visit will last 60 to 90 minutes. I spend this time getting to know you and your health goals. At the end of this visit I may also recommend some functional medicine testing to evaluate your adrenal system, hormones and the health of your gut. Functional medicine testing is an additional fee. Costs depend on the desired tests.
Create the plan Together we discuss the results of the assessment and any testing and create
a wellness plan for you. Your customized treatment plan will likely include a combination of supplements, diet and lifestyle recommendations. There is no magic fix. Supplements alone will not solve the problem and correct the imbalance.
Follow-up coaching sessions usually last 45 minutes to an hour. They take place in person, over the phone or via Zoom. There is a structure to the coaching session, but you, the client, set the agenda. During each session we discuss the previous week’s goals. We brainstorm together to manage any challenges or obstacles.
Each client receives a complementary 20 minute phone consultation before the initial coaching agreement is made. A minimum of 3 months of coaching is recommended in order to experience the benefits of health coaching. According to research, it takes a minimum of 3 months to develop a permanent change in habits. Potential clients will be screened for their willingness and ability to make changes before being considered.
